The Hill Country is known for its natural beauty, but many don’t realize that it’s also home to some incredible art venues. When the heat drives you indoors, take a quick drive down the road to check out some special exhibits going on right now featuring beautiful landscapes.

The Georgetown Art Center brings culture, events, and education to our area. Beginning August 25 and running through September 24, the exhibit “Wide Open” lets you view three artists’ interpretations of vast, modern landscapes. You’ll see both common visions and unique takes on the subject from three contemporary painters: Rebecca Bennett, Shawn Camp, and Karen Maness. Admission to the exhibit is free. For more information on the exhibit and the center, please go to their website here.

Since it’s part of Southwestern University, the Sarofim Fine Arts Gallery always has something for art lovers to enjoy, whether it’s a student exhibition or one of an experienced professional. Continuing until October 1, the Gallery is presenting Leonard Lehrer: A Retrospective. This installation features drawings, paintings, and prints from thirty-four years of Lehrer’s career. It spans his development as an artist, taking you from early experiments that reflect his interest in botany to mature prints of formal gardens from around the world. His landscapes are richly developed and intriguing, no matter what medium he uses. For more information, and to learn about a reception with the artist, visit the event’s website here.
