We’re having a cold and rainy winter, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop! Keep the whole family engaged when you visit Rio Bonito with a trip to the Texas Museum of Science and Technology. The museum is located in Cedar Park, about fifteen miles from our resort, but the exhibits are out of this world!

The museum is only three years old, but it has already become a must visit destination for kids and adults alike. The planetarium is the first in the Austin area and is a full 360-degree movie theater with a variety of programming from movies to star shows.

You won’t want to miss the permanent Timewalk exhibit. It takes you through Earth’s history using collections of fossils and dinosaur bones to tell the tale. A new exhibit on butterflies is also a must-see. Kids will love learning about butterfly lives and migration as they move through a maze.

Right now, the museum is hosting an exhibit called Drugs: Costs and Consequences on loan from the Drug Enforcement Administration Museum. It shows the global and historical overview of the impact of drugs on society. You can learn more about production and trafficking, beginning with the opium and heroin connections in Afghanistan. Then explore how drugs affect us on a personal and community level. Interactive kiosks provide insight into both the problem and its effects.
