If your idea of a relaxing day involves a glass or two of wine, the Hill Country is a great place to visit! Many Texas wineries offer tours and tastings to locals and visitors alike. When you stay at Rio Bonito, you don’t have to go far for a great vintage. A visit our local wineries lets you sample the goods and learn more about how to select the perfect wine. Don’t forget to take home a couple bottles!
When you stay at Rio Bonito, you’re only two minutes away from The Thirsty Mule Winery and Vineyard. The Thirsty Mule is a Liberty Hill staple. You’ll love checking out the only underground wine-tasting bar in Texas. Located four-feet underground, the bar will impress you almost as much as the wine. You won’t need reservations, but their hours vary daily. The Thirsty Mule is closed Monday and Tuesday. For more information, check out their website here.
A short drive down the road is the Thirsty Mule’s sister, the Georgetown Winery. The Winery was the first in Williamson County. The owners’ family began making wine back in the late 1800s and hasn’t stopped. They still get their wine from a family-run vineyard in Rockdale. While those 3,000 vines provide good supply, the Winery also carries wine from the Thirsty Mule’s vines. Enjoy some Tempranillo, Cabernet, and Blanc du Bois when you go. Their location on the Georgetown Square is perfect for people-watching. For more information, visit their website here.
