Rio Bonito’s fantastic location makes it a great home base for exploring the rich history of Texas. A quick drive into Austin brings you to one of the most fascinating places to visit, the Texas Capitol.

Our Capitol sits in the oldest state office building in Texas, the restored 1856-57 General Land Office building. The building is an impressive piece of architecture, and it has been mostly restored to its 1888-1915 appearance, down to original or reproduction furniture. The rotunda is on the must-see list, with its 218-foot-high interior dome. But don’t forget to look down, also. The terrazzo floor is inlaid with the six seals of the sovereign nations that claimed Texas during its history.

Be sure to catch one of the guided tours to get inside information. Exhibits in the Visitors Center highlight the building’s history and construction. You’ll also want to check out the exhibits on the history of the state of Texas and the lives of the soldiers who fought during the Texas Revolution.

You can get more information on visiting the Capitol building on the Visitors Center’s website, here.
